Capstan Table by DB Fletcher Design

Robert Jupe patented his design for a similar expanding table in 1835. This table was initially round, had an ingenious geometry and could equally change from a small size, to a table of larger diameter. However, Jupe’s tables could not store their own expansion leaves, were not always truly round, and were slow and laborious to operate. The idea was wonderful though and was a source of inspiration and re-invention.

Tables are styled exclusively for each commission. You are not restricted merely to any kind of timber; marble, glass or metal would be equally suitable and combined with lighting. Expansion can be controlled manually or electrically and be infrared controlled. Table tops are honeycomb cored constructed, not only for the saving of weight but also for exceptional strength and rigidity. Mechanism parts all marine grade and external siting of tables is possible. Regular maintenance is not necessary.
Tables typically expand over 30% in diameter, over 70% in area, allowing two sizes with seating capacities of six and twelve. A typical diameter would be 2m (80 7/8”) small size, expanding to 2.7m (106 5/16”), although other size variants are possible.
