Expanding Walnut Dining Table by Matthew Burt

Matthew Burt’s client required a table that seated eight at its smaller size and expanded to seat 16.

Matthew Burt set out to avoid the excessively complicated solutions usually found in expanding circular tables. They created a separate chest in which eight crescents are stored; when the larger size is required, these are added to the table, supported on eight pull-out rails. The radiating pattern of 16 mirror-matched segments on the top of the table at its small size continues into the outer crescents, giving a spectacular pattern at both sizes.

Every Green Design Furniture computer desk features an extra-wide 45″ sliding keyboard tray, providing ample space to work, with room left over for office essentials.

S2 Bow Desk, You might detect a hint of art nouveau or the sweep of a calligraphic brush stroke in the curving lines of the Series 2 desk. Green Design Furniture computer desks combine aesthetic appeal with practical ergonomics. Computer cables run through precision-cut openings in the top and walnut covers hold them in place. For strength to last generations, our solid cherry desktops and tabletops are a generous 1 1/8″ thick, and the legs are 1 3/4″.

Doza Armchair, The Doza Collection is characterized by exquisite curves and solid, artisan craftsmanship. The bowed and sinuous design is a sculpted expression of comfort as well as artistry. The legs are carved from 2″ thick solid cherry.

Doza Coffee Table, The design of our Doza Coffee Table echoes the carved and bowed legs of the seating collection. This piece features an innovative split shelf for graceful and practical storage. The top of the coffee table has a delicately curved edge that flares in width as it approaches the ends. The legs are carved from 2″ thick solid cherry. The top is a full 1” thickness for strength and character.

Crescent Dining Table, The Crescent Dining Table is Douglas Green’s newest addition to the Series 3 Collection. Gracefully carved legs and three recessed rails lend an air of absolute lightness to the table’s form. The top almost appears to float above the floor. The extension option offers two 16″ leaves that attach at the ends of the table. Also available in 84″ length and 40″ width.

Classic Café Chair, The Café Chair back is simpler, and a few inches shorter than the Classic Side Chair back, making it a good selection for our Writing Desk or smaller dining tables.

Doza Bed, Strong Eastern inspiration blends with hints of Art Deco. The Doza Bed design evolved from listening to the many requests for a traditional bed-frame construction with a more compact and curvaceous look. The shaped form of the headboards and footboards adds soft, fluid lines to the bed’s appearance. The legs are carved from 2″ thick solid cherry.

S2 Platform Bed, The S2 bed combines elements of conventional and platform designs. The mattress rests on ash slats below the surrounding cherry ledge to create a lighter, floating profile. The headboard is angled at the ideal pitch for reading.

Capstan Table by DB Fletcher Design

Robert Jupe patented his design for a similar expanding table in 1835. This table was initially round, had an ingenious geometry and could equally change from a small size, to a table of larger diameter. However, Jupe’s tables could not store their own expansion leaves, were not always truly round, and were slow and laborious to operate. The idea was wonderful though and was a source of inspiration and re-invention.

Tables are styled exclusively for each commission. You are not restricted merely to any kind of timber; marble, glass or metal would be equally suitable and combined with lighting. Expansion can be controlled manually or electrically and be infrared controlled.

Table tops are honeycomb cored constructed, not only for the saving of weight but also for exceptional strength and rigidity. Mechanism parts all marine grade and external siting of tables is possible. Regular maintenance is not necessary.

Tables typically expand over 30% in diameter, over 70% in area, allowing two sizes with seating capacities of six and twelve. A typical diameter would be 2m (80 7/8”) small size, expanding to 2.7m (106 5/16”), although other size variants are possible.

Formi, 2005 design: Frans Schrofer

“Formidable” was the judgement given to Frans Schrofer’s first version of this rotating rocking armchair in 2002. The organic design was anything but conventional, so that Formi became “a little bit of eternity” and, with that, took its place in the world of interior design. Three years after the introduction of Formi, Leolux presents the Phase 2. The organic form and the rotating-rocking function have stayed the same but, thanks to little adjustments in the back, the seat has become even more comfortable. Small details such as the “flat band” in the seat provide a visual separation and contribute to an even better balance of style. Formi has been updated to “level 2006” with this Phase 2 and is even more “formidable” than its predecessor. The Formi remains the rotating-rocking armchair from Leolux.

Gisa, 2005. Design: Jane Worthington

Inspiration from nature leads to soft forms that envelop people. The Gisa swan is a compact armchair, with natural grace and a neck that turns and bends to serve as a backrest.

Excalibur, 1990. Design: Jan Armgardt

Excalibur’s organic forms surround you with a sublime comfort. The backrest, which is moulded to the human body, envelops the connoisseur. Furthermore, Excalibur is a joy to behold. In designing this armchair, Jan Armgardt was years ahead of the developments which were to affect furniture design: soft forms and flowing lines bear witness to so much character that each product remains an individual creation. Excalibur has become one of Leolux’s legends.

Sjamaan, 1998. Design: Hugo de Ruiter

As bewitching as the Siberian wizard after whom he is named! Just like a small wizard from Leolux, the Sjamaan armchair lets your wishes come true. Beautifully designed by Hugo de Ruiter and comprising several surprising aspects. The seat depth of this little armchair is adjustable, so that you can opt for both a deep or shallow seat. Furthermore, this little armchair is available with feet in several heights. This way, Sjamaan can be easily adapted for large or small users.

Kilenge closed front, 2001. Design: Hugo de Zeeuw / Scooter & Partners

With design, the art of omission allows great attention to be paid to the proportions and the details. A curved back, rounded arms and a front of the Kilenge armchairs follow perfectly the contours of the seated person. Owing to the special split in the back you can sit right back without the back’s upholstery being pulled uncomfortably taut. Kilenge provides proof that Leolux has command of this art.

United States Bookshelf by Ron Arad

Ron Arad presents an exhibition of his new works at Timothy Taylor Gallery, April 8 – May 9, 2009. This marks the first show at the gallery since it announced sole representation of Arad in the UK.
